Traditional Taxi vs. Uber

What is the difference between Traditional taxi and Uber? Which one of these is better in terms of convenience, efficiency, price & safety? Nowadays, almost every traveller is asking these questions. We have decided to do a comparison between the traditional taxi and Uber to help you understand which one you should choose.

Basics of Traditional taxi & Uber

Taxi is a motor vehicle that is legally permitted to transfer passenger(s) from one place to another and demand fare from the passenger(s) who has hired it.  Usually, a taxi is fitted with a meter.

Uber is a ride-sharing platform that enables a traveller to book his/her ride via the app. There are different vehicle options available to Uber app users. App users are required to enter both pickup and drop addresses before selecting any vehicle option.

Fares

Taxi – Usually, taxis follow a consistent pricing system that has nothing to do with the neighbourhood or time. Taxis fares are usually charged according to the taximeter.

Uber – The main reason for Uber’s popularity is that its fares are less than traditional taxi fares. However, Uber fares are not always cheaper than taxi fares. Uber uses a surge pricing system which permits it to increase the fare when the demand for its vehicles is high. Undoubtedly, a traditional taxi is a better option than Uber in times of high passenger demand (surge pricing).

Drivers

Taxi – Passengers don’t know anything about the taxi driver when they hire a traditional taxi. Apart from this, taxi companies hire only experienced, licensed and trained local drivers.

Uber – Uber app shows the name and picture of the driver, and number plate, colour and model of vehicle he/she is driving when you book a ride via Uber app. Apart from this, the drivers employed by Uber are not much experienced and trained.

Record of trips

Taxi – When you travel in a traditional taxi then you cannot have the record of your trip.

Uber – When you use Uber ride then you have the record of every trip. Moreover, you can share the details of your Uber trip with your friends/family as well.

Rating System

Taxi – Traditional taxis usually don’t have any specific rating system.

Uber – Uber has a proper rating system. At the end of a trip, the driver can rate passenger and passenger can rate the driver on the basis of their trip experience.

Fare discounts

Taxi – Usually, fare discounts are not available.

Uber – Uber offers its clients fare discounts.
